The Richest Place On Earth

This quote by the late Dr Wayne Dyer“Don’t die with your music still inside you.” reminds us of the inevitability of death. It is one of the few certainties in life. Dr Dyer walked his talk and left a whole body of guidance to the world in dozens of best-selling self-help books and hundreds of hours of recorded teachings on how to live the life we were born to live.

Every human-being has a duty to share their gifts with the world. Our calling is always beckoning at us and stirring us to take action to get outside of our comfort zone. One of the clearest signs you are being called is a recurring thought or idea that keeps seeping into your mind. The thought may leave you momentarily but, like the melody or words in a song, it will keep coming back to you. It will spring into your mind when you are engaged in your daily activities or when you are unwinding and taking a break. There is no set time for the thought to emerge. It may even leave you for long periods, but rest assured that it will recur. The thought will keep recurring and tugging at your heart until you have embraced it and made a conscious decision to act upon it. Invariably, the thought relates to a problem in your community or somewhere in the world which requires your unique blend of aptitudes, skills and personality.

It is often said the richest place on earth is the cemetery. That is where you will find unimaginable riches – music that was never composed, books that were never written, business ideas that were never realised, landmark buildings that were never designed, inventions that never made it into reality, and myriads of other lost visions. Can you imagine how much poorer the world would be if people like Mozart, Bob Marley, Maya Angelou, Shakespeare, Darwin, Einstein, Tesla and other legendary figures had not shared their gifts with us before they died?

Don’t let fear or feelings of inadequacy stop you from giving full expression to the music within you. If you are not using your unique gifts and talents to do the things that you are passionate about, this is a sure sign that you are not living in alignment with your calling and life purpose. If your job drains your energy rather than energise and empower you, you are clearly out of sync with your calling. Oprah reminds us, “You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world”. Carve your purpose on your community and other people’s lives. It is a waste of a life if you leave it to be carved on tombstones
